By train through the Swedish hinterland

Inlandsbanan, "the Inland Trainline" is an 800-mile-long (1,288 km) railway line between Kristinehamn and Gällivare in Sweden.

"For 2026 we have developed a package tour that reflects this variety. What all our trips have in common is that they provide time for relaxation and reflection, and where the travel itself is a large part of the overall experience.”
    Among the 2026 trips were “Upptäck Inlandsbanan” (Discover Inlandsbanan), one of Inlandsbanan’s classic trips. The trip goes through the heart of Sweden, from forest landscapes in the south to the mountain world of Lapland in the north, and combines nature experiences with interesting cultural encounters and local food traditions. A trip that gives a broad picture of Sweden’s inland’s rich culture and history.

  • In the footsteps of history
    For those who want to travel in the footsteps of history and experience something completely unique, there’s “Vildmarkståget“ (The Wilderness Train), a collaboration with the Railway Museum in Gävle. Travelers travel in museum carriages from the 1940s–60s, pulled by locomotives from different eras, including steam locomotives. On board, you will be greeted by a contemporary atmosphere, personal service and the opportunity to experience northern Sweden in a remarkable way.
    Another package is the “Inlandsbanan and Hurtigruten,” a popular combination trip, which takes travelers by train through northern Sweden and then with Hurtigruten along Norway's coastline - a contrasting experience that combines railway and classic shipping. There’s also a trip aimed at younger families which combines the culture and history of the inland with experiences in the mountain world. It offers accessible and playful adventures for both young and old, with a focus on shared experiences and quality time.

    Inlandsbanan runs through the central parts of northern Sweden, and was built between 1908 and 1937. Today Inlandsbanan AB operates a passenger service for about three months each summer and three to four months in winter, primarily for tourists. The Östersund - Gällivare trip alone will be a journey of around 14 hours while traveling south from Östersund to Mora in Dalarna is about six hours.
