The elusive Lindköping

“Lindköping” does not exist but Lidköping and Linköping do. Sometimes with unfortunate results - one letter, 250 kilometers and hundreds of mistakes.

• Linköping and Lidköping stepped up the fight against confusion in a joint activity this summer. Tinder dates and theory tests in the wrong city. Tourists and transportation that got lost.
  After a search on social media, it is clear: The confusion between Linköping and Lidköping is not only a logistical problem, it is also a source of life's misfortune and somewhat hilarious everyday situations. Now the cities are stepping up the campaign to stop the confusion once and for all.
  In June last year, Visit Linköping and Lidköping as part of Destination Läckö-Kinnekulle launched a joint initiative to put an end to the confusion between the two cities. The campaign—which included everything from humorous films to warning signs along the highway—had a great impact in both national and local media.
  In an Instagram post earlier this spring, the two cities called for the funniest Linköping/Lidköping mistakes. The response was immediate, and the examples poured in.
  “Despite our successful campaign, the problem of confusion does not seem to have diminished. We have received testimonies of continued confusion between the cities. We are therefore not giving up, but are tirelessly continuing our work to guide people in the right direction,” says Malin Johansson Fahlström, marketing communicator at Destination Läckö-Kinnekulle.
  During the month of May, a digital campaign was running on social media to spread knowledge about what distinguishes the cities and to attract visitors to the right destination. Here is but a small selection of the testimonies that poured in from visitors and residents who accidentally mixed up the cities:
  -Tinder date hiccup. A man drove 125 miles for a long-awaited first date in Linköping, only to realize the girl was waiting in Lidköping. He ended up blocked on the app and had to spend the night in his car.
  -Higher education testing: Someone was ready in Linköping for the most important test of their life, only to be told by the supervisor that they were actually registered in Lidköping.
  -A French family drove all the way from France to Linköping for the big car get together Power Meet. Once they checked in at their hotel, they realized the event was actually taking place in Lidköping.
  -A Swedish family booked an entire bus trip and cruise with Viking Line from Lidköping instead of Linköping.
  -The wedding panic: A couple wedding guests showed up at a hotel in Linköping to check in for tomorrow's party. The problem? The wedding was taking place in Lidköping.
  -The secretive German. A German tourist in Lidköping was desperately looking for the famous Garden Society with her husband. When she realized she was reading a guidebook for Linköping, her only comment to the guide was: "Don't tell my husband anything!"
  -The guest of a party in Lidköping was pleased when he managed to order a drink in the app that no one else at the table could find. However, it turned out the drink was waiting at a bar in Linköping.
