May 2, 2026. The Swedish fretted dulcimer has a storied history in Scandinavian music and instruments but is rooted in Swedish folk music. Tuning is the first lesson, 11:30 AM - 1 PM, in the beginners’ dulcimer playing workshop. Once in tune (D-A-D) it can’t be played wrong! Strumming a simple tune is next and in about 10 minutes the music begins. Instructions with printed charts and playing in the morning session will be followed by a 2nd afternoon session, 3 PM - 4:30 PM, highlighting rhythm, fiddle tunes, and improvising. Bring your own fretted dulcimer to play tuned D-A-D. A few dulcimers will be available for newcomers. Call (212) 779-3587 for reservations. At Scandinavia House, NYC, www.scandinaviahouse.org.
