Dr. Scott Burns will talk about the terroir of wine in Oregon (the influence of geology, climate, grapes, soils, and soil biota on the flavors of wines).

Dr. Burns and his students have spent the last 30 years unlocking these secrets. The Willamette Valley is one of the best places in the world to taste differences in terroir! The intent is to have wine tasting tours every summer (led by Dr. Burns) at local Nordic wineries to taste these different flavors.

Nordic Northwest holds monthly Skål Nights that includes wine tastings from Nordic wineries - next, we will go into the field with Dr. Burns and taste wines together while learning the local geology.

Dr. Scott Burns has been a member of Nordic Northwest for over 25 years. He has Danish and Norwegian heritage. He has been teaching at the college level for 53 years with past positions in Switzerland, New Zealand, Washington, Colorado, and Louisiana before coming to Portland State 33 years ago. He loves leading terroir tasting tours each summer and looks forward to doing them for Nordic Northwest.
