Murder, Finnish War Children, and the Journey to America ... Swedish author Maria Bouroncle will discuss her historical trilogy, which portrays young women in the early 20th century. Meet Ingeborg, Elsa, and Hilja, and explore the history of women’s mental health care and correctional institutions, emigration to the United States, and the experiences of Finnish war children in Sweden during this time.
Maria Bouroncle spent more than 25 years in international development before publishing her first novel in 2018. Her trilogy has been adapted for film, translated into several languages, and is taught in a literature course at UCLA. She has received several awards for her writing in Finland, Sweden and the United States.
