1907: The first ever 'majblomma' (May flower) is sold in Goteborg. It is sold under the name “förstamajblomma” (May first flower), with proceeds going to people suffering from tuberculosis. The initiator is Beda Hallberg (1869-1945), who had previously founded the organization Förstamajblommans riksförbund. The May flower phenomenon spreads quickly and today the little flower you can put on your lapel is sold not only in Sweden, but also in Norway, Finland, and Estonia to aid children in need of extra support.
