Sweden's new hockey puck isn't round

The Hammarby hockey team has been training with a puck inspired by Alvar Aalto.

  The form has been protected from being used for other products for 78 years, but is now available in a limited edition hockey puck. The first Swedish club to test the design puck was Hammarby.

• A famous glass vase has inspired a prototype in hockey equipment. The 1936 design of the Finnish designer Alvar Aalto’s Savoy vase — inspired by melting snow and ice — had Hammarby's team training with a puck of the same shape. Southern Stockholm’s Hammarby team recently tested the puck during a workout.
  According to the players, it’s great for training. “It’s unpredictable and flutters more than a standard puck, meaning one has to focus more than usual.” Though the Aalto puck won’t do for play in any World Cup final, there is a lot interest from clubs and individuals who would like to practice with it. It’s not in commercial production yet.
